Comments:
An unannounced health and safety inspection was conducted on Friday, December 16, 2022 between 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM. There were 49 children in care with 10 staff supervising. During the inspection the inspector observed the children participating in story time, napping, eating lunch, and handwashing. Lunch consisted of Pollock fish, kale, corn, sliced bread, and milk. The inspector observed all 7 classrooms, restrooms, kitchen, and playground. The center's first aid kit and non-medical emergency supplies were inspected and found complete. The required postings were inspected and found to be incompliance. Liability insurance, health inspection, and drills were all in compliance. Medications and authorizations were reviewed. A licensing inspection was conducted on the same date as the SHSI supplemental inspection; the two inspections combined cover all subsidy health and safety requirements. Only subsidy requirements that are not covered in licensing standards are reviewed during this supplemental inspection. Violations of the supplemental subsidy health and safety requirements were found.

Standard #: 8VAC20-790-600-D-1
Description: Based on review of staff records and interview, the center did not ensure staff who work directly with children, obtained certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) appropriate to the ages of children in care. The training shall include an in-person competency demonstration; and shall have been completed within 90 days of the date of employment or 90 days from subsidy vendor approval.
Evidence:
1. The record for staff #3, hired 08/04/2022, did not contain documentation of completion of CPR, exceeding 90 days from hire.
2. The record for staff #4, hired 06/2912022, did not contain documentation of completion of CPR, exceeding 90 days from hire.
3. The administrator stated staff #3 and staff #4 had not completed certification in CPR.

Plan of Correction: First Aid and CPR already scheduled by the end of the month.
