Details

Effective March 20, 2020, Accomack DSS is closed to the public but will continue to operate under normal business hours (8:30 – 5:00). Accomack DSS will continue to respond to emergency cases that cannot be handled by alternative methods and require face-to-face contact. Any substantial updates will be done by radio (WESR) and the County website: https://www.co.accomack.va.us. Any individual needing Medicaid, TANF, SNAP, or Child Care Subsidy should apply at CommonHelp (www.virginia.commonhelp.org). If the individual does not have internet access they may apply by calling 1-855-635-4370 or (Medicaid only) 1-855-242-8282. Paper applications and requested documents may be dropped off in our blue drop box, in front of the agency. Adult Protective Services and Child Protective Services continues to be open. During business hours you can continue to call the agency at 757-787-1530. After business hours you can call the Sheriff’s department, or the State Hot line at 1-800-552-7096.
Albemarle County Department of Social Services 06/19/2020 Closed

Details

Albemarle County Building Closures and Modified Hours: As of 5 pm on Friday, March 27, both County Office Buildings will close to the general public until further notice, with limited exceptions, to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. All essential services will continue to be performed. You may contact Albemarle County Department of Social Services at 434-972-4010 during normal business hours to ask questions, be directed to a worker’s extension and/or if you have concerns about a child’s or elderly/disabled adult’s safety. Customers are encouraged to apply for Benefits through the CommonHelp portal https://commonhelp.virginia.gov/access/. Customers may also use the drop box installed outside the main entrance to the Albemarle County Office Building on Fifth Street Extended to submit Social Services or Housing paperwork.
Alleghany-Covington Department of Social Services 06/19/2020 Closed

Details

We will be closed to the public beginning March 18th, at the request of the Alleghany County Administration. We will conduct any required interviews for Benefits via telephone and will accept verifications through USPS or electronically. Any verifications brought to the agency will need to be placed in the drop box located outside the main entrance. We will provide access to paper forms outside the main entrance. If we have any expedited SNAP or replacement EBT cards that need to be issued we will be mailing the EBT cards. Information about how to apply for benefits online and by telephone will also be accessible to the public. As for Family Services and Adult Services those programs will continue to function as required per policy until any other directive(s) comes from VDSS as to how those programs will continue to operate during this time.

Effective March 19, 2020 Bath Co DSS will limit public access to DSS staff until further notice. For inquiries pertaining to Benefit Programs, please call 540-839-7271.
