Details

Effective September 8, 2020, Accomack DSS is open to the public by appointment only during normal business hours (8:30 – 5:00). Accomack DSS will continue to respond to emergency cases that cannot be handled by alternative methods and require face-to-face contact. Any substantial updates will be done by radio (WESR) and the County website: https://www.co.accomack.va.us. Any individual needing Medicaid, TANF, SNAP, or Child Care Subsidy should apply at CommonHelp (www.virginia.commonhelp.org). If the individual does not have internet access they may apply by calling 1-855-635-4370 or (Medicaid only) 1-855-242-8282. Paper applications and requested documents may be dropped off in our blue drop box, in front of the agency. Adult Protective Services and Child Protective Services continues to be open. During business hours you can continue to call the agency at 757-787-1530. After business hours you can call the Sheriff’s department, or the State Hot line at 1-800-552-7096. Due to the number of COVID cases in Galax City, the Galax City Department of Social Services' office will be again closing our doors to the public. Our office hours will still be 8am to 4:30pm but we will be doing telephone interviews and any person to person contact will be by appointment only. We will be closed until further notice. A reopening date will be decided as soon as the numbers start to decrease.

In our efforts to ensure the safety of our community, the agency will manage most matters by phone. If a face- to-face meeting is required, an appointment will be scheduled. Those coming to the agency without an appointment are asked to call the above number before entering the building, and instructions will be provided to you based on social distancing requirements. We ask that anyone coming to our agency abide by Governor Northam’s guidance to wear a facial covering. A pre-screening tool will be posted on the front door and you are asked to avoid entry to the building if you answer “Yes” to any of the screening questions. The safety of our citizens and employees is important. In an effort to maintain the health and well-being of our staff and citizens, the Greensville/Emporia Department of Social Services will close to the public effective, Monday, January 11, 2021 until further notice. Details

As of October 20, 2020, Surry DSS is open to the public by appointment only. The public is encouraged to utilize the online application and to contact your workers via phone or email. If you need to arrange a face-to-face contact, please reach out to your worker to schedule an appointment. We do ask that all citizens before entering county facilities do the following: 1. Stay home if feeling sick, 2. wear a face covering, 3. stand 6 feet apart, and 4. use hand sanitizing stations. Visitors to the government center will need to enter at the main entrance of the building (45 School Street), the door on the right. A security officer is present to guide all visitors to the District Court or to the main corridor of other offices. All non-court patrons will be greeted by a County employee who will confirm appointments and provide guidance to each visitor. After confirmation, all visitors will receive a visitors badge and be directed to the department or escorted by a department representative. Virginia Beach Department of Human Services 03/01/2021 Closed

Details

The Virginia Beach Department of Human Services will temporarily suspend public access to building facilities beginning Monday, January 25, 2021. We will monitor the situation as it relates to the pandemic and determine a reopening timeline at a later date. The agency will continue to operate under regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and respond to Child and Adult Protection referrals and emergencies on a 24-hour basis. SNAP EBT card pick up is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at both the Human Services Building at 3432 Virginia Beach Blvd. location and Housing Resource Center (HRC) located at 104 N. Witchduck Rd. We will be practicing social distancing inside our buildings and on the grounds surrounding them. Visitors are encouraged to contact their caseworker prior to arrival to request an EBT card. Staff are required to wear face coverings during all face-to-face interactions and we ask visitors do the same.
