Details

Effective March 20, 2020, Accomack DSS is closed to the public but will continue to operate under normal business hours (8:30 – 5:00). Accomack DSS will continue to respond to emergency cases that cannot be handled by alternative methods and require face-to-face contact. Any substantial updates will be done by radio (WESR) and the County website: https://www.co.accomack.va.us. Any individual needing Medicaid, TANF, SNAP, or Child Care Subsidy should apply at CommonHelp (www.virginia.commonhelp.org). If the individual does not have internet access they may apply by calling 1-855-635-4370 or (Medicaid only) 1-855-242-8282. Paper applications and requested documents may be dropped off in our blue drop box, in front of the agency. Adult Protective Services and Child Protective Services continues to be open. During business hours you can continue to call the agency at 757-787-1530. After business hours you can call the Sheriff’s department, or the State Hot line at 1-800-552-7096.
Albemarle County Department of Social Services 08/30/2020 Closed

Details

Albemarle Co. DSS will be closed to the general public until after July 6 but we will have the possibility of seeing clients by appointment only.  Decisions will be made on a case by case basis.   Teleworking continues to be encouraged.  We will also start in-person child and family visitation and decisions on that will be made on a case by case basis.

Effective March 19, 2020 Bath Co DSS will limit public access to DSS staff until further notice. For inquiries pertaining to Benefit Programs, please call 540-839-7271. If you have a scheduled appointment, please call prior to coming to the agency since most interviews will be conducted via phone. (March 20, 2020) - As the spread of the coronavirus is being continually monitored and in an effort to follow CDC recommendations to limit interpersonal interactions, Bedford County government will be closing its County Administration Building, Department of Social Services Lobby, and the Parks and Recreation Facility at Falling Creek Center to the public beginning on Monday, March 23. This closure will be re-evaluated as conditions evolve. Working hours will remain Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. The purpose of the Bedford County government, its employees, and programs is to provide the highest quality of life for its citizens. In order to maintain this purpose while keeping health and safety at the forefront of all decisions, employees who are able to work remotely will do so, with limited staffing on site; this will allow citizens to conduct the business needed and meet the needs of the community in the safest manner possible. GDSS remains available to assist county citizens. While offices will reopen to the public on July 6, 2020, we ask that citizens call to schedule an appointment at (804) 693-2671 from 8:00- 4:30pm. In our efforts to ensure the safety of our community, the agency will manage most matters by phone. If a face- to-face meeting is required, an appointment will be scheduled. Those coming to the agency without an appointment are asked to call the above number before entering the building, and instructions will be provided to you based on social distancing requirements. Only the office located in Leesburg (Shenandoah Building) will open beginning Monday, July 20. Lobby hours are limited to morning only (8:30 to 12:00). Only 4 individuals will be allowed in the lobby at the time; others will be asked to wait outside or in their cars until called. Please note that the lobby in the Eastern office in Sterling remains closed, but expected to reopen sometime in August. Details

New Kent County offices will be open to the public and fully staffed beginning Monday, June 29. Clients will be seen by appointment and on an emergency basis as needed. The County requires all visitors to the Human Services Building complete a screening form and wear a mask during their visit. EBT cards will be issued as normal.
