Comments:
A monitoring inspection was initiated and concluded on 05/02/2024. The inspector arrived at 11:00 AM and departed at 1:15 PM. There were 141 children present, ranging in ages from infants to five years, with 27 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. Outdoor play, lunch service and preparation for nap time were observed. A total of 8 child records and 8 staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program and discussed with the administrators during the exit interview.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based upon observation, the facility has not ensured that hazardous substances are kept in locked places using safe locking methods that prevent access by children.
Evidence:
There were two small bottles of saline solution with warning labels stored in children's high cubbies in room 6.

Plan of Correction: The facility responded with the following:
As standards allow for diaper creams to be stored in areas inaccessible to the children, staff misunderstood that the saline could also be stored to be inaccessible to the children. The staff immediately moved the saline to a locked location.
