Comments:
A monitoring inspection was initiated and concluded on 4/29/2022. There were 17 children present, ranging in ages from 2 years to 4 years old, with 2 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 2 child records and 2 staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-290-A-3
Description: Based on observation and interview, the licensee did not ensure that electrical outlets in areas accessible to children are fitted with protective covers.

Evidence:
The licensing inspector observed two outlets that were not fitted with a protective cover in the preschool classroom, two outlets that were not fitted with a protective cover in the toddler classroom and two outlets that were not fitted with a protective cover in the napping room where children were resting and sleeping at the time.
Staff stated that these outlets had just been added and it was an oversight that they had not been fitted with a cover.

Plan of Correction: Staff stated that covers would be placed on the outlets before children return on Monday.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-540-D
Description: Based on a review of the First Aid supplies and interview the licensee did not have all of the required emergency supplies available at the center and on field trips.
Evidence:
The contents of the First Aid kits were reviewed. There was not an ice pack or cooling agent in the kits. When asked, Staff #1 stated that they normally have them but a child had recently been sent home with one following a minor injury and they do not re-use them and had not yet replaced them.

Plan of Correction: A new supply of ice packs will be obtained and kept on site to be used as needed. Replacements will be bought as the supply runs low to ensure there are always ice packs available when they are needed.
