Comments:
A renewal inspection was conducted on January 8, 2024 from 10:15 A.M.-12:45 P.M. There were 20 children present, ranging in ages from three months to five years of age, with five staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of five child records and six staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-70
Description: Based on review of staff records, the center failed to obtain two or more references as to character and reputation as well as competency were checked before employment.

Evidence:
1. Staff #5's date of employment was 09/05/2023. There were no reference checks in the staff's record.
2. Staff #6's date of employment was 08/23/2023. There were no reference checks in the staff's record.
3. Administration verified the dates of employment and that reference checks had not been completed.

Plan of Correction: Administration will obtain reference checks for the staff that are missing them. In the future new hires will not begin until reference checks are completed and in the record.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-290-A-3
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that all electrical outlets shall have protective covers.

Evidence:
In the play area downstairs there was a power strip going into the Director's office that had three electrical outlet that were not covered with protective covers, and one electrical outlet at the end of the hall that was not covered by a protective cover.

Plan of Correction: Administration will place protective outlet covers in all electrical outlets downstairs. Staff will check the area each time children are brought into the area to ensure that the protective covers are in the outlets.
