8VAC20-790 Subsidy Program Vendor Requirements for Family Day Homes

Comments:
A new subsidy health and safety inspection (SHSI) was conducted on September 20, 2023 from approximately 9:30 am to 10:40 am. There were four children present with one caregiver supervising. Children were observed playing with various toys and interacting with provider. Four child records, provider record and three household member records were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law, and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-790-390-F
Description: Based on observation, provider did not ensure soiled disposable diapers and wipes are disposed of in a leak-proof or plastic-lined storage system is either foot operated or used in such a way that neither the caregiver's hand nor the soiled diaper or wipe touches the exterior surface of the storage system during disposal.

Evidence: The diaper pail used for soiled diaper disposal is hand operated as a button on the top of the container must be pushed to open the lid.

Plan of Correction: A new diaper pail that is foot operated will be purchased today.

Standard #: 8VAC20-790-400-H
Description: Based on interview, provider did not ensure medication is kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence: Provider stated an inhaler is stored in an unlocked cabinet in the kitchen.

Plan of Correction: The inhaler will be kept in a box locked in the bathroom cabinet.
