Reviewed how to properly document required training hours when staff are promoted to the Lead Teacher position.

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today. There were 84 children in care, with a total of 13 staff assigned to their direct supervision. Children's records, staff records, staff training, health records, emergency preparedness items, children's medications, classroom programming, the indoor/outdoor physical plant, and children's nutrition were inspected today. The children were observed playing outside, attending karate class, playing at the water table, engaging in a large variety of creative play activities, creating various spring art projects, eating lunch, and playing "Simon Says" games. The children were served honey chicken, brown rice, oranges, broccoli, and milk for lunch today. This inspection was completed between approximately 10:00am and 12:10pm. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-330-B Description: Based on observations, it was determined that various fall zone areas on the playground are not equipped with an adequate level of resilient surfacing. Evidence: There is not enough mulch in the following fall zone areas of each playground: at all three stationery cars/helicopter, the tube slide, and the rock climbing wall. Although the stationery play pieces are meant to be used while seated, the Inspector observed a child climbing on top. Plan of Correction: Mulch is always ordered and installed this time of year before summer programming starts. I will follow up to make sure the mulch is installed as soon as possible.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-520-B Description: Based upon a review of children's sunscreen products, it was determined that one container was not labeled as required. Evidence: In the Monkeys classroom, one child's sunscreen bottle is no longer labeled with the child's name. The name has worn off of the bottle and is no longer clear enough to read. Plan of Correction: The bottle will be labeled again during nap today.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-E Description: Based on a review of emergency drill documentation, it was determined that the center was not able to show the Inspector documentation of a record of each monthly fire drill. Evidence: There is no documentation showing the completion of a fire evacuation drill during the month of March, 2019. In addition, management staff person B reported that the center did not conduct a fire drill in March. Plan of Correction: We did do the drill in March. The documentation was found after the Inspector completed the Inspection and left the premises. The documentation was forwarded to the Inspector later in the day.
