Comments:
The licensing inspector conducted an announced inspection to review staff records at the administrative building on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. During the inspection, six staff records were reviewed. Violations were cited during the inspection. See violation notice for additional information. Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-240-D-1
Description: Based on record review and interview, whenever the center has agreed to administer prescribed medications the administration shall be performed by a staff member or independent contractor who has satisfactorily completed a training program for this purpose approved by the Board of Nursing and taught by a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine, or pharmacist; or administration shall be performed by a staff member or independent contractor who is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia to administer medications.

Evidence:
On Thursday, September 12, 2019 from approximately 3:45 PM until 6:00 PM. Staff #1, Staff #2 and Staff #3 were observed supervising the children during the inspection. On Wednesday, September 25, 2019 staff records were reviewed at the Human Resource office. The records for Staff #1, Staff #2 and Staff #3 did not contain documentation of staff completing medication administration training within the last three years. Prescription medication for children present at the center during the September 12, 2019 inspection was located on the premises. Members of management confirmed the staff did not have current medication administration training during the record review.

Plan of Correction: The regional manager has now ensured multiple staff members are present with the required training.

Description: Based on record review and interview, the center did not ensure there is always at least one staff member on duty who had obtained within the last three years, instruction in performing the daily health observation of children.

On Wednesday, September 25, 2019 staff records were reviewed at the Human Resource office.
