Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 7:00am to 8:30am with program staff. There were 10 children in care at the beginning of the inspection, ranging from five to ten years of age, supervised by two staff. The children were observed playing in centers which consisted of legos, board games, and reading books, playing a fitness game, and discussing a book they read as a group. Five children?s records were reviewed and were in compliance. Staff records will be reviewed off site at a later date. A review of required on-site staff documentation was conducted for staff certified in CPR, First Aid, and Daily Health Observation. The required information was in compliance. Two medications and authorization forms were reviewed and the center has one staff with current certification in Medication Administration Training (MAT). The emergency drill log was reviewed and was in compliance. The last documented evacuation drill was dated 10/30/19 and the last documented shelter-in-place drill was dated 10/31/19. The first aid kit, flashlight, and battery operated radio were observed and were in compliance. If you have questions regarding this inspection, please contact the Licensing Inspector, Laura Brindle, at laura.brindle@dss.virginia.gov or 540-905-2062.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-G
Description: Based on observation, the center did not follow requirements for prescription medication which requires that drugs that were dispensed from a pharmacy are maintained in the original, labeled container. Evidence: The emergency medication for Child A was not in the original, labeled container.

Plan of Correction: I will ask the school nurse for the box with the prescription this morning. If she needs it, I will ask the mother to get another for me.
