Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 6/5/20 and concluded on 6/5/20. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 61 children present with 20 staff. The inspector emailed the provider a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 4 children?s records and 4 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
Information gathered during the inspection determined noncompliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs

Violations:
Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-3
Description: Based on record review and interview, the center failed to obtain a search of child abuse and neglect registry or equivalent registry maintained by any other state in which a new staff has resided in the preceding five years for any founded complaint of child abuse or neglect against him/her by the end of the 30th day of employment.

Evidence:

1. Staff 3's first date of employment was 1/13/20. The sworn statement stated staff 3 lived in NC within the last five years. An information request document for NC was signed by staff 3 on 6/1/20. No results were provided.
2. Staff 5 stated she gave staff 3 the NC form to complete within the first week but cannot find proof of sending it out. She audited and turned over responsibility for staff files to the new director last week and realized at that point they did not have the NC results and had staff 3 resubmit the document.

Plan of Correction: With the new director better systems have been put into place. The center administration is doing better at keeping all communication sent on file and will document the date when sending things as well.
