Technical Assistance:
Provided consultation on:
Effective July 1, 2020 SB 668 requires licensed child day centers to obtain a copy of the results of a criminal history name search and sex offender registry check from any state in which the individual has resided in the preceding five years.

Provided consultation on: COVID-19 Phase III Guidance Update:
While masks are not required for children in child care, the essential guidance issued by the Department of Social Services on 9/25/2020, based on CDC recommendations, strongly recommends that children 2 years of age and older wear a face covering. This is a best practice that will decrease the risk of COVID-19 transmission when children and caregivers are in close proximity.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was conducted on 11/12/2020 with an exit interview on 11/16/2020. The director was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 95 children present, ages five months - 12 years of age, with 13 staff supervising. The Inspector reviewed five children's records, five staff records, the emergency drill log, medication, meals and snacks, hand washing, enhanced cleaning and sanitizing of toys and surfaces, and daily indoor and outdoor activities. The information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with one standard that is documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs. If you have further questions about this inspection please contact Donna Liberman at 540-359-5244 or Donna.Liberman@dss.virginia.gov.

Violations:

Description: Based on review of documentation, and staff interview, the center did not have written authorization from the child's physician and parent for all long term medication. Evidence: the record for child A did not have written authorization from the parent or physician for a long term medication that was present on site.

Plan of Correction: Staff stated they have asked the parent to provide the missing documentation.
