Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-J Description: Based on observation and interview the center failed to ensure that medication is kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
1. There was one epinephrine injectable medicine stored in an unlocked child's backpack on a hook in the hallway outside of the yellow (pre-k 3) classroom. The medication was accessible and within reach of children in care.
2. The center director confirmed that the medication was not kept in a locked container as required by the standards.Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: The medication was taken out of the backpack and placed in a locked cabinet in the office during the inspection. Center management will retrain staff and remind parents about the center's medication procedures.
