Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was completed on March 5, 2021. The provider was contacted by telephone (video call) to initiate the inspection. There were 64 children present and in the care of 12 staff members. The inspector was able to view all required documentation. A virtual tour of the children in care was conducted. Records were reviewed for eight new staff records and four children. Information gathered during the inspection determined one non-compliance with applicable standards or law and the violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-4
Description: Based review of eight staff records and verification from the director, the center failed to obtain all of the background checks for one staff member who had lived outside of Virginia within the last five years.

Evidence:
1. An out-of-state sex offender background check had not been completed for Staff Member #8 who had lived in another state within the last five years. Date of Employment for Staff Member #8 was 11/09/2020.
2. The director stated she was unaware that an out-of-state sex offender check was required.

Plan of Correction: On the day of the inspection, the director sent the request off for the sex offender check in that state. She will contact the licensing inspector when it is obtained. The staff is now aware of what background checks need to be completed for staff.
