22.1 Early Childhood Care and Education

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a virtual tour of the program.
A renewal inspection was initiated on 01/26/2022 and concluded on 02/04/2022. The director was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 35 children present, ranging in ages from 2 years to 5 years, with 8 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 3 child records and 5 staff records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 22.1-289.035-B-4 Description: Based on record reviews, the center failed to ensure that all persons who indicate on a sworn statement having lived outside Virginia in the last five years, and who work alone with children, have completed all required background checks.
Evidence:
1. The inspector reviewed five staff records. Staff record #2 did not contain an out-of-state search of the central registry and the request for the out-of-state search was not submitted within 30 days of employment. Staff #2's date of employment was 11/01/2021.Plan of Correction: The director submitted the request for the out-of-state search of the central registry for staff #2, but has not received the results. Once the results are obtained, a copy will be sent to the licensing office.
