22.1 Early Childhood Care and Education

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on February 25, 2022 and concluded on March 3, 2022. The director was contacted and a remote inspection was conducted. There were fifty-three children present, with fourteen staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of four child records and four staff records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
Please complete the plan of correction and date to be corrected sections for each violation cited on the violation notice and return it to me within 5 business days from today. Please specify how the deficient practice will be or has been corrected. Your plan of correction should contain: 1) steps to correct the noncompliance with the standard(s): 2) measures to prevent the noncompliance from occurring again; and 3) person(s) responsible for implementing each step and/or monitoring any preventive measure(s).

Standard #: 22.1-289.035-B-4 Description: Based on review of four staff files, program did not ensure that results of out of state background checks were obtained timely.
Evidence:
1. The date of employment for Staff # 1 was 7/26/21.
2. There were no results in file for a sex offender check
3. Results of the child abuse and neglect check were dated 3/2/22.
4. The date of employment for Staff # 2 was 10/4/21.
5. Results of a sex offender check were dated 2/23/22.Plan of Correction: 1) Executive Director will make sure all paperwork is
included in staff file inspection submittance to licensor.
2) Executive Director will be more diligent in touching base with out of state agencies on child abuse and neglect check results. Will add these check-ins to my electronic calendar.
3) Executive Director will ensure sex offender checks are printed and filed immediately after completion to ensure they are logged
Standard #: 8VAC20-770-60-B Description: Based on review of four staff files, program did not ensure that a sworn statement was completed prior to the first day of employment.
Evidence:
1. The date of employment for Staff # 3 was 10/4/21.
2. The sworn statement in the file was dated 2/22/22.Plan of Correction: Executive Director will make sure to be more organized in collecting staff paperwork.
Executive Director will conduct more frequent staff file audits to ensure paperwork is complete and up-to-date.
