Technical Assistance:

Discussed reviewing the new CDC standards that became effective 10-13-2021 and the new website (Child Care VA) https://www.doe.virginia.gov/cc/. Clarified the definition of sanitized and cleaned

Comments:

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and an in person tour of the program. A monitoring inspection was initiated on May 9, 2022 and concluded on May 10, 2022. There were 105 children present, ranging in ages from 8 months to age 5, with 10 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 5 child records and 5 staff records were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #:	22.1-289.058
Description:	Based on observation and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure that each building that was built before 2015 and that houses a child day program that is licensed and that serves preschool-age children shall be equipped with at least one carbon monoxide detector. Evidence: The center owner confirmed they did not have a carbon monoxide detector.
Plan of Correction:	Carbon monoxide detector was installed within 2 hours of notification on 5/9/2022.
Standard #:	8VAC20-780-530-A-1
Description:	Based on record review and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure that at least one staff with each group of children had current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as appropriate to the age of the children in care from an organization such as the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, American Safety and Health Institute, or National Safety Council. The training shall include an in-person competency demonstration. Evidence: During the inspection, there was only one staff, Staff #4 in the pre-toddler room with nine children and they had not obtained certification in CPR.
Plan of Correction:	Staff member is scheduled for CPR training: 05/13/2022. Will provide copy of training when done.
