Comments:
An on-site monitoring inspection was conducted on May 18, 2022 and concluded on May 18, 2022. The licensing inspector was onsite from approximately 2pm until 3:45 pm. The director assisted with the inspection. There were 40 children present, ranging in ages from three years to five years, with six staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of three child records and three staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 22.1-289.058
Description: Based on observation and interview, the center was not equipped with at least one carbon monoxide detector,

Evidence:

The center did not have a carbon monoxide detector installed. The director confirmed, the center did not have a carbon monoxide detector.

Plan of Correction: Per the director: I will order a carbon monoxide detector for the building today.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-L
Description: Based on observation and interview, the center did not ensure medication, except for those prescriptions designated otherwise by written physician's orders, including refrigerated medication and staff's personal medication, were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence:

In the three year old classroom, two unlocked medications were observed in a tote bag on the bookshelf accessible to children in care. Staff #4 stated the medications were in the tote bag to be transported with them as they changed locations within the school.

Plan of Correction: Staff removed the medications and placed them in a locked desk. Per the director: We will store the medication in one of the approved medication zip-bags in the classroom. We have some on hand.
