Technical Assistance:
The following was discussed with the designated person-in-charge during the inspection:

*Emergency supplies should be accessible to staff and able to be retrieved quickly in the event of an emergency.

*It is recommended the center have a plan as to how to adequately supervise children when a staff member has to tend to an administrative task and there is not an extra staff available.

Comments:
A monitoring inspection was conducted on 07/27/2022. At the time of arrival there were were
25 children present and 2 staff. A tour of the center was conducted. School-age children were observed finishing snack and preschool children were observed napping. The inspector emailed the designated person-in charge a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 4 children?s records and 3 staff records, along with any requested program records submitted by the facility to determine if required documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure hazardous substances were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method.

Evidence:
In the blue preschool classroom there was an unlocked cabinet that contained various bottles and containers of disinfectant. .

Plan of Correction: All staff will make sure all cabinets will remain locked.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-D
Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure cleaning and sanitizing materials were not located above food and stored in an area physically separate from food.
Evidence:
In the blue preschool classroom a bag of snacks and candy were stored in the same cabinet and directly under disinfectant bottles/containers.

Plan of Correction: Food will no longer be stored in the cabinets.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-G
Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure when hazardous substances are not kept in original containers, the substitute containers clearly indicate their contents.
Evidence:
In the blue classroom there was a small bottle in an unlocked cabinet that contained a liquid substance. The bottle was not labeled in any way to identify its contents.

Plan of Correction: All bottles will be labeled properly.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-330-B
Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure where playground equipment is provided, resilient surfacing shall comply with minimum safety standards when tested in accordance with the procedures described in the American Society for Testing and Materials standard F1292-99 .

Evidence:
The slide and climbing structure on the playground had grass and weeds growing through the mulch in the fall zones of the equipment.

Plan of Correction: We have ordered more mulch. The playground will be raked after each rain to insure all mulch is in its place. The lawn team will be spraying all weeds and pulling them.

Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure all requirements were met when sunscreen is used.
Evidence:
In the blue classroom there was a bottle of sunscreen that was not labeled with the child's name.

Plan of Correction: The bottle of sunscreen was labeled with the child?s name.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-520-D
Description: Based on observation and interview the center did not ensure all requirements were followed when insect repellent is used.
Evidence:
In the blue classroom there was a bottle of insect repellent that was labeled with a child's name. The center did not have written authorization from the child's parent to apply it. The designated person in charged, confirmed the center did not have written authorization.

Plan of Correction: An authorization form was sent home for any child requiring sunblock. All written authorization will remain in child?s record.
