Technical Assistance:
Inspector and director discussed guidelines for repeat background checks and retaining copies as documentation for completed checks, guidelines for background check requirements, fire drills, lead teacher supervision, Montessori ratios and maintaining resilient surfacing underneath fall areas.

Comments:
An in-person monitoring inspection was conducted on July 26, 2022 from 10:30am until 12:30pm. There were 61 children present with 10 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 5 child records and 5 staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A
Description: Based on observation and interview, areas and equipment inside and outside were not maintained in a safe condition.

Evidence:
1) In the upstairs classroom of building 2, the ceiling has exposed insulation and the drywall is not completed due to a previous leak.
2) On the outdoor playground, the second row of the make-believe bus has a broken blue chair which could be entangle clothing or snag skin.

Plan of Correction: Facility is aware of the leak and are in the process of completing the work to close up the hole. The cracked blue will be addressed.
