Technical Assistance:
Technical Assistance given and licensing standards were reviewed regarding infant care and children?s illnesses.

Comments:
A monitoring inspection was conducted on November 28, 2022 from 12:45pm to approximately 3pm. There were 44 children present and 11 staff members. The Inspector reviewed five children?s records and five staff records. The Inspector observed the interaction of staff and children throughout the inspection. Children were observed during nap, bottle feeding, infant free play, and snack. First aid kits, emergency preparedness documents, and transportation documents were observed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliances with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. The violations were discussed with the owners at the exit interview.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A
Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the center did not ensure that areas and equipment of the center be maintained in a safe and operable condition.
Evidence:
1. In the infant room, 5 cribs had crib sheets that were loose and not fitted to the crib sized mattress. The 5 cribs are assigned to children in care that was present at the time of the inspection. The loose fitting oversized sheet poses as a suffocation hazard.
2. Staff #1 and Staff #2 confirmed that the crib sheets for the 5 cribs had sheets that were too loose and did not fit well to the crib sized mattress.

Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Staff #1 will purchase elastic straps or Velcro for the bottom of the crib mattress to ensure the crib sheet is fitted and taunt.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-570-B
Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the center did not ensure that feeding bottles not be used while the child is in his designated sleeping location.
Evidence:
1. In the infant room, two children under the age of 12 months were observed to have a bottle while lying down inside their (crib) designated sleeping area.
2. Staff #1 and Staff #2 confirmed that the two children in care had a bottle while in the crib which is the child?s designated sleeping area.

Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Staff #1 and Staff #3 immediately removed the bottles from the cribs and moving forward, children will not have a bottle in their designated sleeping area.
