A renewal inspection was conducted Wednesday, January 4, 2023. The licensing inspector was onsite, completing the inspection from approximately 10:00am to 1:30pm. There were 55 children present, ranging in ages from five months to 10 years, with nine staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, and medication. A total of six children's records, six staff records and two board officer records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and a violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B Description: Based on observations, the center did not ensure all hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevented access by children.
Evidence:
1. A container of disinfecting wipes was hanging on a hook by the exit door in the Twos/Threes classroom. Fourteen children were in the classroom during the observation.
2. A wooden cabinet contained three containers of cleaning products on the top shelf in the Threes/Fours classroom. The wooden cabinet was unlocked. Fifteen children were in the classroom during the observation.Plan of Correction: The cleaning products were moved to a locked location while the licensing inspector was onsite. We will continue to review with all staff the requirements of keeping cleaning products locked - not just out to the children's reach.
