Technical Assistance:
Provided consultation on standard:
1) 40J: injury prevention procedures shall be updated at least annually based on documentation of injuries and a review of the activities and services.
2) 40N: the center shall develop written playground safety procedures that shall include provisions for active supervision by staff and method of maintaining resilient surface.
3) 40M: the center shall maintain a current written list of all children's allergies, sensitivities, and dietary restrictions that is dated, kept confidential, and in each room or area where children are present (including the playground.)
4) 70: staff records shall include the name, address and phone number of a person to be notified in an emergency; documentation to demonstrate that the individual possesses the education, certification, and experience required by the job position; orientation and training as required by 240 and 245.
5) 80: for each group of children, the center shall maintain a written record of daily attendance that documents the arrival and departure of each child in care as it occurs. The intent of this standard is so that emergency personnel can tell at-a-glance, who is, and who is not, present in the room at any one time. Discussed extensively the opportunity to improve on the current attendance method, so that it is always clear to distinguish who is and is not in the classroom.
6) 210: program leader qualifications
7) 240D: prior to working alone, and within 7 days of employment, staff shall be provided in writing the center's information listed in 420A and 1-7 listed in 240D. Documentation of this must be in the staff record.
8) 240I: documentation of orientation training shall be kept by the center in a manner that allows for identification by individual staff member and shall include name of staff, training topics, training delivery method, the entity of individual providing the training, and the date of the training. Best practice is to have staff and trainer sign and date to acknowledge training occurred.

Comments:
An unannounced focused monitoring inspection was conducted from 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm with the director. There were 50 children present with six staff supervising. Infant care was observed and older children were observed napping during the inspection. Three staff records were reviewed along with the written daily attendance, and written allergy list. Restroom requirements, diapering procedures and staff to children ratios were met.
