There were 50 children in care, ranging in age from five-months to five-years-old, supervised by seven staff. Infants were observed napping and playing; older children were observed listening to a story, playing with tabletop toys, and getting ready for lunch. Five child records and four staff records were reviewed. The Center has nine staff with current certification in CPR and First Aid, and two staff trained in Daily Health Observation. Two medications and authorization forms were reviewed, and the center has two staff current in Medication Administration Training (MAT). Required postings were observed. The attendance, menu, allergy list, and emergency drill log were reviewed. The first aid kit, flashlight, and battery-operated radio were observed. The playground was inspected. The most recent Fire Inspection on file was dated 1/11/24 and the most recent Health Inspection on file was dated 1/8/24. Lunch served was hamburgers on a bun, corn or green beans, and apples/applesauce. Please complete the "Plan of Correction" and "Date to be Corrected" areas on the Violation Notice for each violation cited and return to me by close of business on 4/19/24. Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-350-B-2
Description: REPEAT VIOLATION Based on observation and interview, the center did not ensure that the required ratio of staff to children was followed for children aged 16 months up to 24 months. Evidence: On 4/9/24 there were nine children aged 16 months up to 24 months in the ?Toddler? classroom, supervised by one staff. The required ratio for this age group is one staff to five children. Interview revealed that there is currently only one staff member for the classroom until approximately 3:00pm each day.

Plan of Correction: We continue to aggressively attempt to hire additional staffing. We are interviewing every applicant that comes into the center. We have posted job openings on several on-line websites as well as in local newspapers. We have attempted to participate in a program sponsored by the state of Virginia with the goal of hiring trained staff. Our facility was prepared to pay the $20.00 hourly minimum put in place by the program, but the program was canceled due to a lack of interest.

We will continue to interview and attempt to hire all qualified applicants.
