Comments:
A renewal inspection was conducted April 23, 2024. The licensing inspector was onsite, completing the inspection from approximately 2:20pm until 4:10pm. There were 42 children present, ranging in ages from five to 12 years, with seven staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, and medication. A total of five children's records and seven staff members? records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-240-A
Description: Based on review of seven staff records, observations, and interviews, the center did not ensure one staff completed the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE)-sponsored orientation course within 90 days of employment.
Evidence:
1. The record of Staff #2 (date of employment 06/15/2023) contained documentation of completing the VDOE-sponsored orientation course on 04/20/2024.
2. Staff #2 was observed working and counting in staff-to-child ratio during the inspection.
3. A member of management confirmed this information via email on 04/30/2024.

Plan of Correction: The was an oversight that the staff member did not complete the required training during the required timeframe.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-E
Description: Based on review of two medications and medication authorizations, the center did not obtain written permission from one parent to administer long-term prescription.

Evidence:
Child #1 was present at the center during the inspection. A long-term prescription medication was located at the center. The medical authorization form did not contain written permission from a parent allowing the center to administer the medication.

Plan of Correction: I will have the parent complete the required paperwork when the family picks up the child today.
