A Guide to Safe Sleep flyer provided.

Comments:
A subsidy health and safety inspection (SHSI) was conducted on March 27, 2024 from 3:15 pm to 4:20 pm. There were five children present with one caregiver supervising. A renewal inspection was also conducted on this date for review requirements for voluntary registration. Five child records, one provider record and one household member record were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law, and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-790-170-D
Description: Based on observation, vendor did not ensure the home does not exceed the capacity of children cared for as allowed by law or regulation.

Evidence: Vendor was present with 5 children that were currently enrolled. The maximum provider is permitted to have by law is 4 children at any time that are not the provider's child or a household member child.

Plan of Correction: Vendor will talk to parent of part time child tomorrow and require parent
to call prior to bringing child to ensure there is not more than 4 children
at any time.

Standard #: 8VAC20-790-270-A
Description: Repeat Violation
Based on observation, vendor did not ensure potentially poisonous substances are stored in areas inaccessible to children.

Evidence: Disinfectant spray labeled "caution" and "keep out of reach of children" was stored on the table in the childcare room within reach of children.

Plan of Correction: Vendor will keep hazardous chemicals in closet out of reach of children.

Standard #: 8VAC20-790-360-F
Description: Based on observation and interview, vendor did not ensure cribs are provided for children birth through 12 months of age.

Evidence: Child #5 (age 3 months) was observed sleeping in a car seat. There was not a crib available for use. Vendor stated the child sleeps in the car seat or on a napping mat on the floor.

Plan of Correction: A crib will be brought downstairs into the childcare room today and used for infant child.
