Technical Assistance:

We discussed preventable risk factors for Unexpected Infant Death (SUID).
Resources were shared with the provider .
The following information is being shared with the Provider:

Safe Sleep ? SUID and SIDS
The Safe to Sleep? campaign (formerly known as Back to Sleep?) aims to prevent Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) and educate parents, caregivers, and health care providers about ways to reduce the risk of SIDS and other sleep-related causes of infant death. About 3,700 babies die suddenly and unexpectedly each year in the United States. These deaths are the result of unknown causes, Accidental Suffocation and Strangulation in Bed (ASSB), and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). SIDS is defined as an unidentified cause of death in a baby younger than one year. Here you will find additional information about SIDS to arm yourself with the information to keep your children safe at home and with their child care provider. Comments:
An unannounced complaint inspection was conducted on 4/5/2024 from approximately 2:30 - 2:54 pm, in response to a complaint that was received in the licensing office on 1/31/2024 regarding alleged noncompliance in the areas of Voluntary Registration Health and Safety Checklist 22VAC40-180-120, Section 5. Mindful of Responsibilities to Uphold Laws and Regulations Important to the Protection of Children.

At the time of entrance, 4 children were in care with the provider and 2 additional children were identified as children "visiting the home". Records were unable to be reviewed during this inspection. Six children were observed sleeping in the daycare room during nap time. Based on the information gathered, there was not sufficient evidence to support the allegation. However, violations which were not reported were found and resulted in violations in the areas of .Voluntary Registration Health and Safety Checklist 22VAC40-180-120, Section 2. Precautions to Prevent Accidents and Injuries.
Therefore, the complaint is deemed "Not Reported / Found". Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-850-110-C
Complaint related: No
Description: On 4/5/2024, the licensing inspector observed child #1, who the vendor identified as being ?1-year-old?, asleep on a deep-cushioned couch with his face toward the back of the couch. Child #1?s face was approximately 2 inches from the crease where the couch seat meets the couch's back support.
There were two large, overstuffed couch pillows behind child #1 and a third was piled on top of the other two creating an overhang above the sleeping child (#1).
The only part of child #1 that was visible outside of the pile of pillows was the child #1?s right ankle and foot.
When the vendor lifted the child up from the couch, child #1?s face was flushed.
