Best practices for checking for soiled diapers/pull ups were discussed.

An unannounced subsidy health and safety inspection was conducted on 8/23/19 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at DEMI/Good Shepherd School & Day Care to review the subsidy health and safety requirements. At the time of the inspection 59 children were in care with 13 staff. The sample size consisted on five children's records, five staff's records, four diaper ointments, two allergy care plans and nine medications and supporting documents. Children and staff were observed during free indoor and outdoor play, educational activities, hand washing, bottle feeding, bathroom break, clean-up, lunch, nap, transitions and behavioral management. Violations were found during this inspection and are documented on the violation notice.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-580-B Description: Based on record review and interview, the center failed to ensure all new staff complete complete Virginia Preservice Training for Child Care Staff within the first 90 days of employment.
Evidence:
1. The records of five staff were reviewed. Staff 3's start date was 2/25/19. The date preservice was documented as being complete was 6/1/19.
2. The director verified the dates.Plan of Correction: All new staff will be required to complete training within 90 days.
Standard #: 22VAC40-665-780-A-2 Description: Based on record review and interview, the center failed to ensure at least two shelter-in-place practice drills were conducted in 2018.
Evidence:
1. The documentation of the emergency practice drills for 2018 were reviewed. There was only one shelter-in-place drill documented as being completed in 2018.
2. The director stated she thought they only had to complete one per year.Plan of Correction: Two shelter-in-place drills will be conducted each year from now on.
