The Inspector provided written documents:
* 2020 legislative implementation with emphasis on new out-of-state background check requirements effective July 1, 2020.
**Effective July 1, 2020 the results of out-of-state criminal record checks and sex offender checks must be obtained prior to employment or volunteer service.

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A code compliance inspection was initiated on 02/09/2021 and concluded on 02/11/2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 72 children present and 17 staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The inspector reviewed five staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable code sections and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The licensing inspector has reviewed with the director COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-A Description: Based on record review and interview, the religiously exempt child day center failed to obtain a copy of the results of a criminal history record information check from any state in which the applicant has resided in the preceding five years prior to employment.
1. The results of a criminal record check from the State of California were not on file for staff 1.
a. Staff 1 has a hire date of 11/18/2020 and has resided in the State of California within the past five years.
2. The results of a criminal record check, from the State of Mississippi, were not on file for staff 2.
a. Staff 2 has a hire date of 08/24/2020 and has resided in the State of Mississippi within the past five years.Plan of Correction: 1. For staff 1 a criminal record check has been requested from the State of California.
2. For staff 2 a criminal record check has been requested from the State of Mississippi.
Going forward the results of out-of-state background checks will be obtained prior to employment.
