Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A code compliance inspection was initiated on February 25, 2021 and concluded on February 25, 2021. The in-charge person was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were five children present and one staff. The inspector emailed the in-charge person a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed two staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable code sections and a violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 63.2(17)-1716-B-3
Description: Based on a review of two staff records and interview, the center did not ensure there was at least one staff member present that had been trained to conduct daily simple health screenings to exclude children as necessary.

Evidence:
Staff #1 and Staff #2 records were reviewed. Daily Health Observation training was not observed in the documentation presented to the inspector. The licensing inspector asked the in-charge person if the center had a procedure for ensuring that a daily simple health screening and exclusion of sick children is implemented. The in-charge person stated a daily health screening is performed but neither staff have completed official training on screening for illness at this point.

Plan of Correction: I was not aware of this requirement. The licensing inspector will send information on how to obtain this training and the staff will complete the required training.
