Technical Assistance:
Discussed with provider, when cribs are in use by children, it is required that the linens fit snugly on the mattress.

Discussed with provider the requirement that children have opportunities for vigorous outdoor play daily, depending upon weather, the ages, and health of the children.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternative remote protocol, including telephone contacts, document review, and a virtual tour of the program.

An initial inspection was conducted on 10/08/2021. The provider was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were no children enrolled in the family day home on the date of inspection. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, programming, medication, special care and emergencies. A total of 1 child sample record and 2 staff records were reviewed.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-280
Description: Based on observation, poisonous substances were not stored in a place inaccessible to children.
Evidence:
1. A canister of air freshener was observed on the counter in the bathroom used by children.
2. A container of plant fertilizer was observed on the deck that the provider indicated was outdoor play space.

Plan of Correction: Removed air freshener from bathroom.
Removed plant fertilize from deck.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-340-C
Description: Based on observation, the bathroom did not contain all required supplies.
Evidence:
On the date of inspection, the bathroom did not contain paper towels.

Plan of Correction: Did put paper towels in the bathroom.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-430-B
Description: Based on observation, an uninstalled pressure mounted gate was used as a protective stair covering.
Evidence:
A pressure mounted gate was observed at the bottom of the stairs on the main level. The gate was not installed and was placed between the banister spindles to hold it in place.

Plan of Correction: Installing gate to the wall between kitchen and hallway.
