Technical Assistance:
Discussed with the provider the requirements for the posted weekly menu.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today from 10:30am to 12:10pm with the provider. There were six children in care, ranging from 14-months to four-years-old, for a total of 17 points. Children were observed doing workbooks at tables- tracing stars and other shapes, coloring trains; reading a book; playing with plastic animals; and doing puzzles. Five children?s records and the provider's record were reviewed and were in compliance. The provider has current certification in CPR and First Aid. The provider has current certification in Medication Administration Training (MAT) but reported there was no medication on site for children today. The menu indicated that lunch today would be spaghetti, salad, strawberries, wheat bread, and milk. The first aid kit, flashlight, weather band radio, carbon monoxide detector, and fire extinguisher were observed. The emergency drill log and attendance were also reviewed. If you have questions regarding this inspection, please contact the Licensing Inspector, Laura Brindle, at laura.brindle@doe.virginia.gov or 540-905-2062.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-430-A
Description: Based on observation and interview, the provider did not ensure that children under two years of age did not have access to stairs. Evidence: On 12/14/21 there were three children in care under two years of age (14-months, 14-months, and 18-months-old). There was no gate at the bottom of the stairs to prevent access by the children.

Plan of Correction: I will go to Walmart this evening to purchase a gate for the stairs.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-570-A
Description: Based on observation and interview, the provider did not ensure that a caregiver did not exceed 16 points. Evidence: At approximately 10:30am on 12/14/21, and throughout the inspection, there were six children present (14-months, 14-months, 18-months, four-years, four-years, and four-years-old) totaling 17 points. The provider is the only caregiver at this time. The provider reported that one of the 14-month-olds is not currently enrolled due to points, but is attending for the week.

Plan of Correction: I will ensure that when a visiting child is present I will be within my 16 points.
