Comments:
An announced initial inspection was conducted 1/25/2022 from 10:30am to 11:45am. There were no children present with the provider. The provider's file along with 4 household member records were reviewed and found to be in compliance. The family day home?s policies, supplies, and equipment was inspected. Inspection of the one crib on site was made and determined to the meet the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) standards. The provider is current in CPR and First Aid training. The home was found to be clean and organized and supplied with adequate space available for the requested capacity of 12 children. There was an abundant variety of age appropriate toys and materials available for the requested age range of 3 months through 12 years.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-760-A-1
Description: Based on observation, the first aid kit did not contain all required items.

Evidence: The first aid kit was missing a thermometer, scissors, tweezers, and 2 triangular bandages.

Plan of Correction: Purchased first aid kit that included thermometer, scissors, tweezers, and 2 triangular bandages.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-770
Description: Based on observation of emergency supplies, the provider does not have a portable battery-operated weather band radio.

Evidence: The provider did not have a battery-operated weather band radio at the time of inspection.

Description: Based on observation, the provider did not have required telephone numbers posted.

Evidence: Telephone numbers for 911, poison control, and the responsible person for emergency back up care were not posted at the family day home at the time of inspection.

Description: Based on observation, potentially poisonous substances were accessible to children.

Evidence: Rubbing alcohol, cosmetics, and cleaning agents were stored in an unlocked cabinet under the sink in the downstairs bathroom in the programming space.

Description: Based on observation and provider interview, a landline phone, excluding a cordless or cell phone, was not available or operable at the time of inspection.

Evidence: The provider does not have a landline phone.

Description: Based on observation, the bathroom to be used by children did not contain paper towels.

Evidence: There were no paper towels in the bathroom in the programming space.

Description: Based on observation of the diapering area, there was no trash can available for disposal of diapers that was either foot operated or able to be used in a way that neither the caregiver's hands nor the soiled diaper or wipe touches the exterior surface of the storage system during disposal.

Evidence: There was no trash can in the diapering area. The provider stated she does not have a foot operated trash can.

Plan of Correction: Bought foot operated trach can - will be delivered 1/28/22.
