The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) assumed oversight of child care licensing and monitoring on July 1, 2021. All associated regulations and codes have transferred over from the Virginia Department of Social Services. Guidance, resources and training links can be found on the new website: childcareva.com.
The violations on the Supplemental report reflect the new VDOE codes and standards.

Comments:
A Renewal Inspection was conducted this date. When the Inspector arrived there were a total of 10 children (27pts) with Provider and 1 assistant. Shortly after the Inspector's arrival, an additional staff arrived. At the beginning of the inspection, the older children were observed painting and drawing in one area. They expressed excitement of St. Patrick's Day and were creating artwork to celebrate the day tomorrow. The younger children were observed in another area with 2 staff. Staff were observed bottle feeding one infant while the other children had free play and tummy time. A walk thru of the home was conducted. No changes in staff or household members since the November inspection. All background checks and health screenings remain current for all staff. Annual staff training was well documented and complete. A total of 3 children's records were reviewed, 1 medication identified for one child and staff certifications were current. At the end of the inspection, the children began washing hands in preparation for lunch time. Some violations found today. Thank you for your cooperation today. Please email me at: lisa.hudson@doe.virginia with any questions.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-800-B
Description: Based on review of the provider's emergency plan, an annual review of the plan was not completed.
Evidence:
The provider's emergency plan was written in November 2019. An annual review has never been completed.

Plan of Correction: I did not know this was required. There have been no changes to the plan. I will document the review and sign and date.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-250-A
Description: Based on observation of the nap room, hanging items were found within reach of children under the age of 5 years.
Evidence:
The cords on the window blinds in the nap room were within reach of children who nap in this room.

Plan of Correction: I will tie them up high enough where they are not within reach.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-510-C
Description: Based on staff statements and observation of the nap room, beds were not at least 12 inches from each other.
Evidence:
The nap room consisted of 8 beds that were positioned with less than 12 inches apart from each other. 4 beds were observed pushed together with no space in between them.

Plan of Correction: I was unaware of this requirement. We will separate the beds and move some to another room. 12 inches will be in between all beds.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-690-D
Description: Based on observation of the diapering surface, the surface was no longer nonabsorbent.
Evidence:
The diapering surface located in the main programming area had a crack in the padding and is no longer nonabsorbent.

Plan of Correction: I will replaced this surface with the other one that is not being used.
