Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm. There were three children in care with the provider for a total of nine points. The children were observed participating in free play. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of three child records, one staff record and three household member records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. If you have questions regarding this inspection you may contact Sharon Allen at 540-272-2941 or sharon.allen@doe.virginia.gov.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-430-B
Description: Based on observation it was determined that pressure mounted gates were utilized as protective barriers at stair openings. Evidence: A pressure mounted gate was observed at the bottom of the basement stairs instead of a gate hardware mounted to the wall as required.

Plan of Correction: A protective gate will be hardware mounted to the wall below the stairs.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-680-A
Description: Based on observation caregivers did not always wash their hands with soap and warm running water after diapering children. Evidence: The LI (licensing inspector) observed that the provider did not wash their hands after diapering a child. The provider used hand sanitizer instead.

Plan of Correction: The provider will wash their hands after every diaper change.
