Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today between 11:15am and 12:45pm. There were 4 children present with the Provider for a total of 10 points within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed playing freely with puzzles and cars and eating lunch (spaghetti, mixed vegetables and mixed fruit). A complete inspection of the physical plant, children and staff records, fire drill log, menu, attendance and emergency procedures were observed during this inspection. The provider is not MAT training to administer medications. The provider stated that no medications were on-site. Violations were found during today?s inspection and can be viewed on the Violation Notice.

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please e-mail me at whitney.mcgrath@ doe.virginia.gov.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-800-B
Description: Based on record review, the provider did not review the emergency plan at least annually and update the plan as needed.
Evidence: The most recent documented review of the provider's emergency preparedness plan is dated 3/2022.

Plan of Correction: I will start writing the date I review.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-880
Description: Based on observation, the provider did not follow the most recent, age-appropriate nutritional requirements of a recognized authority such as the Child and Adult Care Food Program of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Evidence: The children were not served anything to drink during lunch. Child #1 was observed requesting a drink from the provider twice, however the child was not given a drink.

Plan of Correction: The parents say that they don't drink milk. I usually give them water but I was distracted today.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-900-B
Description: Based on observation, children were allowed to drink while walking.
Evidence: At the start of the inspection, child #2 was observed walking around the family day home drinking from a sippy cup filled with milk.

Plan of Correction: I'm always telling [them] to sit down. I will make sure they sit.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-680-B
Description: Based on observation, the provider did not ensure that children's hands were not washed prior to eating.
Evidence:
1. The provider has instructed the children to wash their hands prior to lunch. 3 out of 4 children were observed washing their hands and then resumed playing. The children were seated to eat lunch approximately 5 minutes later.
2. Child #3 was observed being placed into a high chair to eat lunch. The child's hands were not washed prior to eating.

Plan of Correction: They normally wash hands and then sit down. Today they didn't. I'll have them sit next time.
