8VAC20-800-1020D For children staying overnight, separate sleeping areas should be provided to children of the opposite sex if over age 6.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 08/16/2023 from 12:00pm to 1:05pm. There were 3 children ages 9 years old to age 10 years old (2 points) with the Provider and 1 assistant. The programming area, attendance, outdoor playground area, menus, Provider, Assistant and Household member records, 3 children?s records, emergency drills, emergency supplies, and policies were reviewed. There were no children?s medications on site. Children were observed playing on tablets. There was an adequate number of staff present with current certification in CPR and First Aid. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-730-D
Description: (Repeat Violation) Based on observation and interview with staff, the Provider did not ensure that medications, including refrigerated medication and medication for caregivers and household members, were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence: In the unlocked basement bedroom, directly off the room where children are present, there were 2 prescription medications stored on a shelf.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-530-I
Description: The Provider did not ensure that mattresses were covered with a waterproof material that can be cleaned and sanitized.
Evidence: The mattresses that the children sleep on overnight were covered with a cloth material and one mattress has a hole in the corner of the cover. Therefore, the cloth material and the area with the hole are not waterproof and cannot be properly cleaned and sanitized as required.
