Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on March 11, 2024 between the hours of approximately 9:20 a.m. and 10:25 a.m. There were 10 children present with the Provider and 3 assistants for a total of 37 points within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed playing listening to music, engaging in free play, playing on climbing mats, and other organized activities. Positive interactions were observed during this inspection. A complete inspection of the physical plant, fire drill log, menu, attendance and emergency procedures were completed during this inspection. 4 children's records and 1 caregiver record were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please e-mail me at tameika.king@ doe.virginia.gov.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-690-D
Description: Based on observation, the family day home did not ensure the diapering surface was nonabsorbent.

Evidence: At the time of inspection, the diapering surface used in the basement daycare area had a cloth covering.

Plan of Correction: We didn't use cloth covering in the diapering surface anymore.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-690-E
Description: Based on observation, the family day home did not ensure that soiled diapers and wipes were disposed of in a storage system that is used in a way that neither the caregiver's hand nor the soiled diaper touches the exterior surface during disposal.

Evidence: There was a foot-operated trash can used for disposing diapers in the basement daycare area. However, the trash can was inoperable, causing caregivers to use their hands to open the trash can and dispose of diapers.

Plan of Correction: I replaced the foot-operated trash can already.
