Comments:
Thank you for your assistance during the unannounced monitoring inspection conducted from 10:19 AM to 12:35 PM. Today, there were twenty-four preschool age children with three staff and two co-op parents. I viewed program activities, staffing, supervision, interactions with children, equipment, posted information, agency inspections, emergency supplies and drill records, daily routines, asbestos management, injury records, five records for children, three staff records, records for five co-op parents, staff qualifications, staff training, indoor and outdoor areas. Today, the children enjoyed a variety of age appropriate materials and equipment for activity choices in the classrooms and on the playground. Stories, planned activities and group discussions have been about families, feelings and caring about each other. Recently, there were learning opportunities about wildlife. Music activities have been regularly conducted.

Let me know if you have any questions. 540/430-9259

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-E
Description: Based on a review of the emergency practice drills, and interviews with staff, the preschool failed to maintain a record of all monthly evacuation drills. Evidence: The drill record for 2019 had information for an evacuation Practice on October 1, 2019 as the last drill on the monthly list. There were staff that indicated that they remember conducting a fire drill before the Thanksgiving holiday at a time right before scheduled playground activities and the information was not written.

Plan of Correction: The current emergency drill record will be kept with an attendance sheet and not at the hall board so that the drill practiced can be recorded at the time it is conducted. The teachers will make sure all required emergency drills are documented. A teacher will add information about the November fire drill to the list of monthly drills.
