Technical Assistance:
An out of state search of the sex offender registry must be completed for all staff/adult household residents (Family Day Homes) who have resided outside of the state of Virginia within the past 5 years. In addition, an out of state criminal history record search must be completed for staff/adult household residents who have resided in any non-NFF states within the past 5 years. This requirement also applies to staff who currently reside outside of the state of Virginia.

The results of the out of state sex offender search and out of state criminal history record search (if applicable) must be received prior to each employee?s first day of hire.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A code compliance inspection was initiated on 4/16/2021 and concluded on 4/19/2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 95 children present and 17 staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 5 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable code sections and one violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-2
Description: Based on staff background checks, it was determined that one required background search was not completed prior to the employee's first day of hire.
Evidence:
Staff E began employment as a substitute teacher in 9/2019. School management staff did not obtain her fingerprint background search results prior to her first day of employment. This employee did not submit to fingerprinting until it was determined necessary during the course of this inspection.

Plan of Correction: We were not aware of the requirement for substitute staff. Moving forward, all staff will have a full set of background checks as required. This staff person got fingerprinted on 4/16/2021 and the results will be forwarded to the Inspector when received.
