The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.
Senate Bill 668 now requires licensed child day centers, licensed family day homes, and religious exempt child day centers to obtain a copy of the results of a criminal history name search and sex offender registry check from any state in which the individual has resided in the preceding five years (prior to approval or employment and goes into effect 07/01/2020). All existing employees and volunteers, as well as adult household members who have lived in another state in the previous five years must complete a state criminal history name check and sex offender registry check from the other state, and the criminal history background check and sex offender registry check results must be received and provided to the child care provider by 12/31/2020.
Again, anyone who has lived out of state within the past 5 years must now also obtain:
1. An out of state central registry check
2. An out of state sex offender registry check
3. An out of state criminal history record check (if the state is not part of NFF).
Out of state checks are not handled by OBI. To obtain an out of state criminal background check and sex offender registry check, go to the Interstate Criminal Background Check Contact chart from the VDSS website that lists the contact information for each state and territory of the United States. Please see the memo sent and dated - 06/26/2020 on the subject of 2020 Legislative Implementation.

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A renewal inspection was initiated and concluded on 07/29/2020. The in-charge person was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were (86) children present with (15) classroom staff, in (11) groups. The inspector emailed the in-charge person a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed (5) children?s records and (5) staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
The information gathered during the inspection determined no violations with applicable standards or law. No violations were cited. If you should have any questions, please call or send an email to charles.perkins@dss.virginia.gov. Thank you.
