A Subsidy Health and Safety inspection was conducted on 1/14/2020 from 10:10am to 2:15pm to review supplemental health and safety requirements. The children were observed learning through play in centers, participating in story time, playing instruments, listening to music, dancing and eating lunch. A formal observation was completed in Head start and threes and fours classrooms. lunch consisted of teriyaki chicken, broccoli, pineapples, milk. The menu was posted. Interviews were held with staff throughout the inspection, and the inspector interacted with children in each classroom when appropriate. All classrooms were inspected today.
Five children?s records and six employee records were reviewed during this inspection. Medication was reviewed by the inspector. Five injury reports were reviewed as well as the center?s injury prevention plan, which was updated 12/2019.
The center's first aid kit and emergency supplies were inspected.

A licensing inspection was conducted on the same date as the SHSI supplemental inspection; the two inspections combined cover all subsidy health and safety requirements. Only subsidy requirements that are not covered in licensing standards are reviewed during this supplemental inspection. One violation of the supplemental subsidy health and safety requirements was found.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-580-F Description: Based on record review, the center did not ensure staff staff who work directly with children and who are employed complete CPR and first aid training within 90 days after hire.
Evidence:
1. The record of staff #1 (start date: 9/16/19) did not have documentation of cpr and first aid training.
2. The record of staff #2 (start date: 9/3/19) did not have documentation of cpr and first aid training.
3. The record of staff #4 (start date: 8/26/19) did not have documentation of cpr and first aid training.Plan of Correction: Staff members have completed taking the hands on cpr and first aid training today.
