Announcements
  • Attention Custodial Parents: You should have recently received a letter from the Virginia Division of Child Support Enforcement informing you of a $25 federally mandated fee that must be imposed effective Oct. 1, 2007. This letter is not a bill and no action is required on your part. This $25 fee will automatically be deducted from the accounts of custodial parents when Virginia has disbursed at least $500 of support in a Federal fiscal year on each case. This $25 fee is charged to individuals who have never received Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) in Virginia.

  • Beginning July 1, 2008, the Virginia Division of Child Support Enforcement (DCSE) will mail out account statements to noncustodial parents on a quarterly basis. These statements will include the balance due and payments made during the previous 90-day period. If you have questions about your statement, or if you have other questions about child support, contact DCSE at 1-800-468-8894, Monday through Friday from 7 am to 6 pm. Save time and money by paying your child support electronically.

About Child Support Enforcement

The Division of Child Support Enforcement (DCSE) is proud of the work we do helping the children of Virginia. Last year, DCSE located 140,956 noncustodial parents, established 9,302 paternities and collected more than $587 million (an increase of 5 percent over the previous year) for the children of Virginia. Still, unpaid child support is a significant problem. To illustrate, visit our Web page which features some of Virginia's Most Wanted child support evaders. Currently, there are 363,000 child support cases in Virginia. Collectively, 484,000 of Virginia's children are owed more than $2.2 billion.

Parents & Guardians

If you are a noncustodial parent, you must make your child support payments through DCSE if you have been ordered to do so. You will not receive credit for child support payments made directly to the custodial parent after you have been ordered to pay through DCSE, unless a court directs otherwise. Beginning in October of 2007, monthly statements of account will be mailed to noncustodial parents.

If you are a custodial parent, do not accept direct payments for child support from the noncustodial parent after the noncustodial parent has been ordered to pay child support through DCSE. If you receive a payment directly, do not spend or cash the payment. Send the payment to DCSE.
