Comments:

The licensing office received a facility self report from Fairview Home on June 26, 2019 regarding issues with staff not licensed as registered medication aides administering medications and blood sugar checks to residents. Information was obtained through a written report and correspondence between the Administrator and licensing inspector was conducted. As a result of this facility self report one violation is being cited. The "description of action to be taken" for the violation cited, along with the "date to be corrected" must be returned to the licensing office signed and dated within 10 calendar days (07/06/2019) of receipt. Standard #:	22VAC40-73-680-A
Description:	Based on information received from the Administrator by a facility self reported incident, the facility failed to ensure only employees licensed, registered, or acting as medication aides on a provisional basis are administering medications to residents. EVIDENCE: 1. It was reported to licensing that staff # 1 a registered medication aide was allowing staff # 2 a direct care aide to administer medications and blood sugar checks for residents. 2. According to the administrator this was discovered through reviewing surveillance tapes of the medication room.
Plan of Correction:	Staff involved are no longer employed. Guidelines for medication administration has been reinforced with all other nursing staff. Nursing supervisors will observe med room practices. [sic]
