For persons who cannot ask for a PRN medication keep in mind that a description not just a diagnosis needs to be available to medication aides as diagnosing is out of their scope of practice.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A renewal inspection was initiated on 2/19/2021 and concluded on 2/24/2021. The administrator and healthcare coordinator were contacted by email to initiate the inspection. The administrator reported that the current census was 25. This is the second desk review inspection the facility has had during the pandemic. The inspector emailed the administrator and healthcare coordinator a list of time required to complete the inspection. The inspector reviewed three resident charts including notes. No additional medication records met the criteria for review. Three staff records were reviewed that included training, any certification requirements and staff scheduling. Twelve additional new staff background checks were reviewed as was the current registration for medication aides. The inspection also included review of fire and health inspections, emergency drills, health care, dietary and pharmacy over site all submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. The kitchen certificate from the health department has been extended through 10/31/21 due to the pandemic without an additional inspection at this time.
The facility had no violations in their previous inspection. The information contained in this inspection report was reviewed with the administrator and healthcare coordinator. The information gathered during this inspection determined no violations of applicable standards or law. No violations were issued. The facility has had no complaints during this licensure period.
Thank you to staff and administration for your patience and assistance during this desk review process. Should you have additional questions or concerns e-mail this inspector at sharon.deboever@dss.virginia.gov. or call (540)332-2330.
