22VAC40-73 RESIDENT CARE AND RELATED SERVICES

Comments:

A non-mandated self-report inspection was initiated on 08/20/2021 and concluded on 09/21/2021. A self-reported incident was received by the department regarding allegations in the areas of medication. The administrator was contacted to conduct the investigation. The licensing inspector emailed the administrator a list of documentation required to complete the investigation. The evidence gathered during the investigation supported the self-report of non-compliance with standards or law, and violations were issued. Any violations not related to the self-report but identified during the course of the investigation can be found on the violation notice.

Standard #:	22VAC40-73-680-D
Description:	Based on documentation provided, the facility failed to ensure medications shall be administered in accordance with the physician's or other prescriber's instructions and consistent with the standards of practice outlined in the current registered medication aide curriculum approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing. EVIDENCE: 1. Resident #1 has a physician's order for Hydrocodone 7.5mg Acetaminophen 25 mg tablet one tablet by mouth three times daily. 2. Staff #1 reported and documented that Resident #1 was administered a 5mg Hydrocodone.
Plan of Correction:	Resident's POA and PACE and Pharmacy notified. No additional orders. Resident was assessed for increased pain until next dose of Hydrocodone was administered. RMA staff in-serviced on 5 rights of medication administration. RCD or designee will do additional education as needed. [sic]
