Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance today included record keeping. To access the background checks for different states and most recent Sworn Statement, go to the website at dss.virginia.gov and look for "background checks." Consultation today also included serving whole hot dogs to children. The regulations state that choking foods cannot be fed the children under 3, but all children present were over 3 years old. Caution is still recommended because of the shape and consistency of the food.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection took place today from 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM. There were 35 children present today with five staff. I observed children busy with their day: dramatic play that included a pretend medical "office" and babies to push in carriages; pretend bowling; writing and playing with manipulative toys. I also observed transition to clean up, settling down to a video and beginning lunch. If you have any questions, please contact me at brenda. kuhlman@dss.virginia.gov

Violations:
Standard #: 63.2-1720.1-B-3
Description: Based on a review of a sample of staff records today, not all met records met the most recent requirements for background checks of staff who have lived in another state in the past five years per Code of Virginia 63.2-1515 Evidence: There was documentation that two staff lived out of state in the past five years but did not have documentation that a review had been requested for that state as now required. Records showed that Staff #1 lived in GA in the past five years; and Staff #3 resides in MD.

Plan of Correction: We will begin the Search of the Central Registry for anyone who has lived in another state in the past five years.
