LI encouraged center management to have additional staff become trained in CPR, first aid and MAT.
Today an unannounced Monitoring Inspection took place between the hours of 10:40am and 12:35pm. At the start of the inspection there were a total of 25 children with 4 staff; all ratios were incompliance. A total of 4 children?s files and 5 staff files were reviewed. The children were observed returning from a nature walk, cleaning and washing dishes the kitchen area after making pumpkin bread, setting the table with linens, plates, cups, silverware and name tags and serving themselves (lunch: turkey meatballs over rice, cucumber slices with ranch, fresh melon and water). Standard #: 22VAC40-185-240-D-1 Description: Based on a review of medication and interview, the center has agreed to administer a prescribed medication to one child without a staff member on-site that has satisfactorily completed a training program that qualifies them to administer the medication. Evidence: Child #1 has an emergency medication kept on-site due to a medical condition. Center management has confirmed that they are aware this particular medication is not covered under the general Medication Administration Training (MAT) and that the one staff member who has completed MAT has not completed the additional online training that is required for this particular medication. Plan of Correction: Our MAT trained staff will complete this training.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation and interview, hazardous substances are not kept in a locked place. Evidence: There are several various cleaning materials that are stored in the closed in the back right side of the classroom. The door to the closet is not locked. Center management stated that they had a key for the closet door knob however the key has been misplaced. Plan of Correction: We will see if we can either get a new lock or a slide/chain lock.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-J Description: Based on observation, medication is not kept in a locked place. Evidence: During today's inspection, center management obtained three medications from a basket in the cabinets above the children's kitchen area. The cabinet did not have a lock on it. Plan of Correction: We will start keeping the medication in the locked closet.
