- Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance today included record keeping, medication review, infant room areas and physical environment.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 1:30 - 4 pm. There were 110 children present on this County Teacher Workday. I observed children at naptime, transition to waking up and snack; playing with building toys and Legos, coloring and listening to singing. Outdoor areas were not inspected due to weather. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation during today's inspection, there were some indoor areas that were not maintained in a safe condition. Evidence: 1. The door to the kitchen did not close easily, and it was observed left open at times when hazardous items were accessible. 2. The doors to the cabinets under the diapering areas were observed to be unlocked in two classrooms where diaper cream was stored. Staff indicated that it was difficult to lock. 3. There were areas of peeling paint or chipped paint in the kitchen, TK room and baby room. Plan of Correction: Placed work order for door to kitchen to be fixed and moved sign that says "Keep closed at all times." Placed work order for door lock to replace the diapering cabinet lock. In meantime, gave them a plastic child-proof lock. The other room will be retrained and reminded to keep the cabinet locked at all times. Placed a work order for touch up paint to be done to take care of peeling area.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-440-E Description: Based on observation during today's inspection, there was not at least 12 inches of space between occupied cots at naptime. Evidence: In the preschool room and the TK room, children were observed sleeping and resting on cots that were too close together. In some areas, there was less than an inch between occupied cots today. Plan of Correction: We will retrain the staff to better arrange the classroom to ensure all cots are placed 12 inches apart.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-N Description: Based on a review of medications and authorizations today, there were some medications present not longer in use that did not get disposed of or sent home with parents as required.. Evidence: Medication authorizations expired for children in care: Child # 1 had an authorization that expired 9/18, Child #2 had an authorization that expired 6/18, Child 4 had an over-the-counter cream with an authorization date that expired 6/18; Child # 5 had an authorization that aexpired for two allergy medications that expired 10/26/18; and Child # 6 had authorizations that expired 9/18 and 7/18. Plan of Correction: Parents were called and notified to pick up medications this afternoon. We will continue to overview medication monthly.
