Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 9:30am-12:30pm. At the time of entrance, 68 children were in care with 28 staff members present. Children were observed during snack time, making Thanksgiving place mats, playing in the indoor playground, painting, playing with sand at the sand table, free play, diapering and hand washing. Ratios were in compliance and required documents were posted. The site was clean, organized and contained an abundant supply of developmentally appropriate materials. Interactions between the children and staff were positive. A selection of staff and children records, emergency drill log and other documents were reviewed. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the violation notice. Please contact me if you have any questions at Stacy.Doyle@dss.virginia.gov or 571- 835-0386.

Description: Based on observation, areas and equipment of the center outside were not maintained in a safe and operable condition. Evidence: 1. On the playground, two stakes around one of the sand box were raised and one stake on the other sand box was raised.

Plan of Correction: I will call the facility management department to lower the stakes.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation, hazardous substances such as cleaning materials were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: 1. In Classroom 105, the cabinet above the sink contained 3 cleaning products and was unlocked and had the key in the lock.

Plan of Correction: I will remind them to take the key out and lock the cabinets with cleaning products in them.
