An announced initial inspection was completed on January 22, 2019 from approximately 10:00a.m. to 12:15p.m. Four staff records, the emergency preparedness plan and required postings were reviewed. The physical space, programs, nutrition and the first aid and emergency supplies were inspected. The provider is planning for a capacity of twenty-five and will not provide transportation or administer medication. The Director was available for interview, the inspection and was present at the exit interview at which time inspection findings were reviewed and an Acknowledgement of Inspection form was signed and left. There were two citations for violations of the Standards for Child Day Centers. See the violation notice on the Department's public web site for violations of the Standards.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-320-A Description: Based on observation, the licensee failed to provide at least two toilets. Evidence: 1. During observation of the physical space, one toilet was observed. 2. Administrator #1 acknowledged there is only one toilet at the center. Plan of Correction: The Director has applied for an allowable variance to allow one toilet, as the center will only enroll children under fifteen months of age and no children will be potty trained.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-A Description: Based on a review of records, the licensee failed to develop the emergency preparedness plan in consultation with local or state authorities. Evidence: 1. A review of the center's emergency preparedness plan lacked documentation that the plan had been created in consultation with local or state authorities. 2. Administrator #1 indicated that the local fire marshal conducted the fire inspection, but was not formally consulted about the emergency preparedness plan. Plan of Correction: The Director will contact proper local authorities to schedule a consultation regarding the emergency preparedness plan.
